Doug Carroll

It’s a question for the Digital Age: Can anyone out there write anymore?

If you’ve been wondering about that, and you agree that superior writing and editing skills are still the key to effective communication, then you’re at the right address. You need to meet Doug Carroll.

In his career as a journalist, Doug has covered school-board meetings and Super Bowls and much of what’s in between. Along the way, he has met some of the most fascinating people on the planet and had the privilege of telling their stories in print. He has encountered the extraordinary in the everyday — and met the challenge of putting it into words.

Doug not only loves to write, he lives to write. Some of his best work can be read here, including pieces written while he was a reporter for The Arizona Republic and The Sheboygan (Wis.) Press.

“The English language is like a cool race car to me,” Doug says, “and I’m the mechanic. The mechanic doesn’t need to own the car or even drive it. For the mechanic, the satisfaction comes from tinkering with it every day, hearing how it sounds, tapping into its power, making it run smoothly and efficiently.”

To read some of Doug’s most recent work, from 2007-08, click on “Wisconsin.” For a sampling of stories from his 18-year career with The Arizona Republic, click on “Arizona.” For the comments of those who have worked with Doug over the years, click on “Testimonials.” The rest of this site’s content is self-explanatory.

Doug moved back to Arizona in December 2008, and he is looking for challenging full-time communications work and also for freelance and contract assignments in writing or editing. He is both creative and organized, which makes him the perfect bridge between the right- and left-brain worlds. He delivers high-quality work on deadline and is exceptional at meeting the multiple demands of a fast-paced environment. He has written and edited media releases, executive profiles, scripts, speeches, newsletters, corporate correspondence and radio spots.

At telling a story or crafting a message, there is no one better.

Doug lives in Chandler with his wife, Patty. He is originally from Urbana, Ill., and is a graduate of the University of Illinois. His career also has included stints in Chicago and St. Louis and at Northwestern University.
